A young and successful television actor relocates to New York, where he rents a marvelous, gothic apartment. With his television career in limbo, the actor is offered the opportunity to play Hamlet onstage, but there's one problem: He hates Hamlet. His dilemma deepens with the entrance of John Barrymore's ghost, who arrives intoxicated and in full costume to the apartment that once was his. The contrast between the two actors, the towering, dissipated Barrymore whose Hamlet was the greatest of his time, and Andrew Rally, hot young television star, leads to a wildly funny duel over women, art, success, duty, television, and yes, the apartment.

The cast includes Gina Donaher, David Wood, Jessica Corey, Evie Rayburg, Roger Alix-Gaudreau, and Steve Small.

Proceeds go to the Sprinkler Fund

Footlighters Receive Facilities Grant

The Massachusetts Cultural Council has announced that the Walpole Footlighters will receive a grant of $15,000 from the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund towards the Fire Safety Project. This round of CFF grants was funded through a $7 million appropriation made by Governor Deval Patrick as part of a 2011 capital bond allocation.  A formal announcement of the grant recipients was made by the Governor on November 17.

As a condition of the grant, we must supply matching funds. If you would like to help, please consider making a donation through our online store.

Construction Update

You may have noticed some excavation near the Playhouse. This is the beginning of the long-planned Fire Safety Project. We'll be installing a sprinkler system, an updated fire alarm, and new fire-retardant curtains. P.A. Yonker has run new water lines from the street, and Blue Hills Plumbing and Heating will be starting work in mid-November to install the sprinkler system.

This is a very large project, similar in cost to the bathroom and lobby renovation we did a few years ago. The result of the project will be a safer theater for our actors and our audiences. If you can help with a donation, please consider the Sprinkler Project as part of your year-end giving.
